Public Health Larvicide
TEMEPHOS 50% EC
A highly effective organophosphate larvicide designed for mosquito control in various water bodies. It targets the larval stage to prevent the emergence of adult mosquitoes, making it a crucial tool for vector control in ponds, swamps, and drainage areas.
Target Pest
Mosquito Larvae
Mode of Action
Cholinesterase Inhibitor
Application
Water Bodies
Active: Temephos
Formulation: EC (Emulsifiable Concentrate)
Action: Larvicide
Product Information
Mode of Action
Temephos is an organophosphate that acts by inhibiting the acetylcholinesterase enzyme in the nervous system of mosquito larvae. This interruption leads to paralysis and death of the larvae before they can develop into adults.
Target Pests
- Mosquito Larvae (Anopheles, Aedes, Culex spp.)
Application Areas
Ponds, swamps, marshes, drainage ditches, canals, and other stagnant water breeding sites.
Recommended Dosage
| Application Area | Target Pest | Dosage / Ha (ml) | Water Dilution (L/Ha) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mosquito larval treatment areas (Ponds, swamps, drainage ditches, canals) |
Mosquito Larvae | 75 – 250 | 200 |
Note: 75-250 ml of formulation should be diluted in approximately 200 Liters of water to cover one hectare of water surface area. High organic pollution in water may require the higher dosage rate.
Application Instructions
1. Preparation
Mix the required amount of Temephos 50% EC with the specified volume of water. Ensure the mixture is uniform before application.
2. Method of Application
Apply the solution uniformly over the water surface using a knapsack sprayer or suitable spraying equipment. Focus on edges and vegetated areas where larvae tend to cluster.
Safety Precautions
Handling: Temephos is an organophosphate. Wear protective clothing (gloves, mask, boots) to avoid skin contact and inhalation.
Environmental Safety: While effective against mosquito larvae, avoid overdosing. It is generally compatible with fish at recommended dosages, but care should be taken in sensitive aquatic ecosystems.
