Systemic Fungicide
METALAXYL 35% WP
A high-concentration systemic fungicide in a wettable powder formulation, providing specialized control of oomycete diseases. It offers excellent curative and protective activity with strong acropetal and translaminar movement for complete plant protection.
Target Disease
Late Blight, Downy Mildew
Mode of Action
RNA Polymerase Inhibitor
Crops
Potato, Grapes, Veg
Active: Metalaxyl 35%
Formulation: WP (Wettable Powder)
Action: Systemic & Curative
Product Information
Mode of Action
Metalaxyl specifically targets oomycete pathogens by inhibiting protein synthesis through interference with the ribosomal RNA polymerase I enzyme. Its systemic properties allow for rapid uptake and redistribution within the plant (acropetal movement), providing a preventive barrier and curative action against established infections.
Target Diseases
- Late blight (Phytophthora infestans)
- Downy mildew (Peronospora, Plasmopara species)
- Pythium damping-off and root rot
- Phytophthora root rot
Key Benefits
Highly effective against soil-borne pathogens causing damping-off when used as a drench. Provides internal protection to new growth.
Recommended Dosage
| Crop | Disease | Dosage / Ha | Water (L/Ha) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Potato | Late Blight | 500 – 750 g | 500 – 750 |
| Grapes | Downy Mildew | 500 – 750 g | 500 – 750 |
| Vegetables (Nursery) | Damping-off (Pythium) | 0.1 – 0.15% (Drench) | As required |
| Turf / Ornamentals | Root Rot | 500 – 750 g | 500 – 750 |
Dosage Note:
Foliar Spray: 500-750 g/ha (or 1.0-1.5 g/L of water).
Drenching: Use 0.1% to 0.15% concentration (100-150g per 100L water) for soil application.
Application Instructions
1. Timing
Apply preventively under conducive weather conditions (cool, humid) or during early disease development. For soil-borne diseases, apply as a drench at the nursery stage or during transplanting.
2. Resistance Management
Metalaxyl (Phenylamide, Group 4) is highly prone to resistance if used alone repeatedly. Always rotate with fungicides having different modes of action (e.g., Mancozeb, Chlorothalonil) or use tank mixes to delay resistance.
Safety Precautions
Handling: Wear standard protective clothing (gloves, mask) to prevent inhalation of the wettable powder dust during mixing.
Environment: Do not apply near water bodies.
