Plant Activator / Fungicide
ACIBENZOLAR-S-METHYL 50% WP
A unique plant activator that acts like a “vaccine,” triggering the plant’s natural defense system (SAR) to resist bacterial and fungal diseases. Provides preventive, systemic protection.
Function
Defense Activator
Mode of Action
Systemic (SAR)
Crops
Tobacco, Veg, Fruits
Active: Acibenzolar-S-Methyl
Formulation: 50% WP (Wettable Powder)
Action: Preventive
Product Information
Mode of Action
Acibenzolar-S-Methyl does not kill pathogens directly. Instead, it mimics natural plant hormones (like salicylic acid) to activate the plant’s own defense system, known as Systemic Acquired Resistance (SAR). It signals the plant to produce protective proteins, preparing it to resist future infections from fungi and bacteria.
Target Diseases
- Downy Mildew (Peronospora spp.)
- Blue Mold (Tobacco)
- Bacterial Spot/Speck (Xanthomonas, Pseudomonas)
- Rice Blast (Pyricularia oryzae)
- Black Sigatoka (Banana)
- Powdery Mildew & Anthracnose
Recommended Dosage
| Crop | Disease | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Tobacco, Vegetables (Tomato, Pepper, Lettuce), Fruits, Rice, Cereals | Bacterial & Fungal Diseases | Apply at less than 50 g a.i./ha (approx. <100 g Product/ha). Apply 3–7 days before disease appearance. |
Dosage Note: This product requires very low dosage rates. It is strictly preventive. Consult the label for precise calculations based on active ingredient percentage.
Application Instructions
1. Timing
Strictly Preventive: Apply 3 to 7 days before the expected appearance of disease. The plant needs time to “activate” its defense mechanism after application.
2. Application Strategy
Best used in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs. Rotate with conventional fungicides to reduce chemical load. Because it does not directly attack the pathogen, the risk of resistance development is very low.
Safety Precautions
Warning: Use standard personal protective equipment. Do not apply to stressed plants as the activation process requires plant energy. Safe for most beneficial insects.
