Product Information
Mode of Action
Captan reacts with multiple thiol-containing enzymes within fungal cells, disrupting several essential metabolic pathways simultaneously. Because of its multi-site activity, the risk of resistance development is considered low. It is classified under FRAC Group M4 (Multi-site Contact Fungicides).
Target Diseases
- Scab
- Anthracnose
- Alternaria spp.
- Leaf spots
- Fruit rots
- Damping-off
Recommended Application Guidance
| Crop | Target Disease | Application Guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Apple | Scab | Set up protection before rain events likely to trigger spore release. |
| Tomato | Early blight | Use local disease-risk models to time sprays rather than a rigid schedule. |
| Ornamentals | Leaf spots | Full plant coverage, top to bottom, is essential — this product has no systemic movement. |
For specific g/ha dosage rates and local dilution guidelines across registered crops, please refer to the registered product label or consult local agronomic specialists.
Application Instructions
1. Preventive Pre-Rain Application & Risk Models
Apply preventively prior to rainfall events that facilitate spore release and infection, particularly in apple orchards for scab prevention. In vegetable crops like tomatoes, utilize disease-risk forecasting models to optimize application timing.
2. Complete Contact Surface Coverage
Ensure thorough top-to-bottom spray coverage across all plant tissue surfaces. As a contact, non-systemic fungicide, unexposed plant surfaces remain vulnerable to fungal colonization.
Safety & Environmental Care
Always wear proper personal protective equipment (gloves, goggles, face mask, protective suit) during handling, mixing, and spraying. Toxic to aquatic organisms; prevent spray drift or chemical runoff into water bodies, streams, and ponds. Store in original sealed container in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from food, drink, and animal feed.
